SBU 370 - Slavery, Racism, & Amer Capitalism (Business)

This seminar course explores the history of slavery, the concept of race, and the development of American global capitalism. It traces the history of race-based chattel slavery, and discusses the integral ties between slavery and the early structures of capitalism. Topics addressed include the history of slavery, the beginnings of capitalist markets, the debates on importance of slavery in the development of American capitalism. In exploring the past, the course will help develop insights on contemporary issues like globalization, outsourcing, and rise of income and wealth inequality.
When Offered: Fall and spring semesters.
Prerequisite(s): SEC 101 and SEC 102.
Liberal Arts Curriculum: Satisfies the Setonian Mission requirement.
