Trauma-informed care in criminal justice is an approach acknowledging the role trauma has in people’s lives and recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms. It aims to avoid re-traumatizing individuals, which can increase safety, reduce criminal behavior, and support the recovery of people with serious mental illness.
