The curriculum is designed to prepare the student for a career in industry or government or to study mathematics at the graduate level. Students are encouraged to complement the major with courses from computer science, the natural and social sciences, economics, and business.

Career opportunities include statistical research, actuary science, computer consulting and programming, operations research, and engineering.

Learning Objectives: Mathematics

  1. Communicate mathematics effectively.
  2. Recognize the significant historical impact of mathematics.
  3. Work effectively as a team.
  4. Experiment with and experience new ideas, techniques, and concepts in the pursuit of solutions to current and classic problems.
  5. Model an ethical code of conduct during the pursuit of educational and professional goals.

All candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics must complete the Liberal Arts Curriculum requirements, the capstone assessment requirement, and the required courses for the major.

The capstone assessment is the presentation of a showcase portfolio including a sequence of papers discussing personal mathematical development and the mathematics and University learning objectives.

A minimum of 120 credits is required.
