Learning Objectives: Arts Administration

  1. Employ the techniques and practices of the creative process to enhance future liaison work as an arts administrator
  2. Display creativity, imagination, and growth in art production as well as in approaches to problem solving
  3. Utilize constructive dialogue and feedback for improvement; understand management principles
  4. Identify the broad chronology of art and the traditions of Western art while Examining and questioning the theories and assumptions of art history and contemporary art criticism from a variety of disciplinary viewpoints.
  5. Analyze and contextualize art objects and art movements from a variety of cultures by employing effective written and oral communication skills.
  6. Initiate learning and growth through study and involvement in professional organizations in the local, national, and international artistic communities by visiting museums, galleries, and artists’ lectures.
  7. Understand the impact of art on one’s life as a means of personal growth and self-expression and explore artistic expression as a reflection of both personal and cultural views; envision one’s potential as an active member of the community through a community-based project or proposal
  8. Practice professionalism through apprenticeship/internship.

All art students are evaluated in the sophomore year for a formative review. Students complete and present a portfolio of work to be reviewed during the spring semester of the sophomore year by the art faculty. Upon successful completion of this evaluation, students continue through their major coursework.

The arts administration major at Seton Hill University displays appropriate and measurable objectives and is enhanced by the Liberal Arts Curriculum. Majors are advised to consider their career goals and apply for two apprenticeship experiences, e.g., one in a for-profit gallery and another in a museum/non-profit arts organization.

All candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in arts administration must complete the Liberal Arts Curriculum requirements, the capstone assessment requirement, and the required major courses.

The capstone assessment includes the completion of SAR 480 , SAR 440 , and Senior Art Project. For the Senior Art Project, students organize or curate an art event in the gallery.

A minimum of 120 credits is required.
