This major is designed for the Adult Degree Program students. Students not enrolled in that program should consult with their advisor to determine whether this major is appropriate, based on learning and career goals.

Learning Objectives: Behavioral Health

  1. Articulate the principles of the major theories in the behavioral health, and apply them to working with clients.
  2. Recognize the role of diversity, including racial, ethnic, gender and class differences, in the helping process.
  3. Apply social science research methods to the study of social phenomena
  4. Articulate the principles of the National Organization for Humans Services ethical code, and apply them to working with clients.
  5. Perform an array of intervention skills that are client-appropriate.
  6. Implement an entrepreneurial approach to career planning.

All candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in behavioral health must complete the Liberal Arts Curriculum requirements, the capstone assessment requirement, and the courses required for the major.

The capstone assessment consists of a showcase portfolio. The portfolio includes a statement of career history and goals, reflections upon and examples of academic work and career-related documents such as job descriptions and training certificates. In the portfolio, students are expected to demonstrate the acquisition of the major and University learning objectives. They also demonstrate the capacity to be selfreflective and to critically evaluate their academic and professional experiences.

A minimum of 120 credits is required.

Based on the commonality of purpose and a mutual goal of assuring quality education, Seton Hill University and Westmoreland County Community College offer a joint degree in behavioral health.
