COOPERATIVE DEGREE PROGRAM WITH LAKE ERIE COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE (LECOM)

The pharmacy cooperative degree program at Seton Hill University with LECOM offers a combined undergraduate and graduate program leading to two degrees: the Bachelor of Science in biology and the Doctor of Pharmacy.

Admission criteria for the BS/Pharm. D. degrees

Phase I prospective students must:

  • Be accepted at Seton Hill University as a full-time student;
  • Have a minimum SAT score (critical reading + math) greater than or equal to 1100 on a single exam; or ACT Composite score of 21 or better;
  • Have an unweighted high school GPA of 3.5 or better;
  • Fill out an application through the EAP inquiry link on the LECOM website;
  • Complete an interview;
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; and
  • Agree not to apply to another medical school’s program while enrolled in the cooperative degree program at Seton Hill University with LECOM.

  Transfer Students applying to the combined Seton Hill/LECOM program must:

  • Be accepted to Seton Hill University as a full-time student
  • Have not accumulated more than 65 Post-Secondary credit hours
  • Meet the ACT/SAT requirements for high school students
  • Meet the high school GPA requirements; OR
  • Have completed at least 30 credit hours as a full time student
  • Have a Post-Secondary cumulative overall GPA of 3.40 or higher each semester prior to making an application
  • Have a Post-Secondary cumulative science GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Major only in the 4+4 program
  • Have at least two years remaining as a full-time student at the undergraduate institution
  • Not hold a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

To be eligible for Phase II students must:

  1. Be enrolled in Phase I before starting the third year of study at Seton Hill University;
  2. Be United States citizens or permanent U.S. residents;
  3. Complete the major course requirements listed below (no CLEP, IB, repeated, summer study, or Pass/Fail courses will be accepted) with a grade of “C” or better in each and with no “W”, “WP”, or “WF” grades on the transcript. AP credits may be used to satisfy the requirements in calculus and statistics if a score of 4 or 5 was achieved; AP credits may be used to satisfy the requirements in English and behavioral science if a score of 3 or higher was achieved; AP credits will not be accepted for the required science courses.
  4. Complete a replacement course applicable to the field of pharmacy or a course of similar academic rigor in the event that Seton Hill accepts AP credits for science;
  5. Complete all degree requirements for the Seton Hill degree;
  6. Demonstrate a commitment to practice pharmacy and possess the personal and professional character needed as a practicing pharmacist;
  7. Have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or better; and
  8. Have earned a cumulative Science grade point average of 3.2 or better.

To gain final acceptance, students must:

  1. Meet all requirements listed above,
  2. Apply to LECOM through the PharmCAS and submit the online LECOM secondary application by October 15 of the year prior to anticipated matriculation into Phase II, and
  3. Arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent to PharmCAS (one from Pharmacy Advisor).

All candidates for the cooperative degree program’s Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Pharmacy degrees must complete the Liberal Arts Curriculum, the capstone assessment, and all required graduate and undergraduate courses for the major, earning a minimum of 120 credits at SHU for the 4 + 4 program. The capstone assessment for the biology major includes successful completion of a comprehensive examination. Students must contact the Seton Hill-LECOM academic advisor for details.
