Emphasizing both sustainability and critical thinking, the environmental studies minor at Seton Hill University offers students opportunities for an in-depth analysis of regional and global environmental problems, their causes, and their potential solutions. Required coursework for the minor is uniquely interdisciplinary (incorporating the sciences, humanities, and the social sciences), challenging students to draw connections across traditional academic boundaries.

Students who have completed the environmental studies minor will have achieved environmental literacy, an important component of many professional fields within the sciences, engineering, law, journalism, education, and public affairs.

Environmental Studies Minor - Learning Objectives

1. Identify scientific principles underlying natural systems and explain their relevance for current environmental issues.

2. Evaluate the nexus of human activity with natural systems to identify and understand sustainable (or unsustainable) practices.

3. Demonstrate a cross-disciplinary understanding of environmental issues and solutions, drawing upon natural science, the humanities, and environmental policy.

4. Create plans to minimize and mitigate the impact of humans upon the environment.
