Cybersecurity, B.S.

The curriculum is designed to prepare the student to enter a cybersecurity career in the workforce or to study cybersecurity at the graduate level. Students have the option to take networking and security certifications with certain coursework.

Career opportunities include information security analyst, information security architect, data security administrator, information security officer, information systems security administrator, security auditor, security consultant, and security specialist.

The Learning Objectives of the Cybersecurity Major are to prepare graduates who can:

  1. Evaluate an organization’s networks and monitor their systems and evaluate these monitor reports for security breaches and investigate a violation when one occurs.
  2. Construct security solutions to protect sensitive information, such as installing and configuring firewalls and data encryption programs.
  3. Create document reports that research and explain security breaches and the extent of the damage caused by the breaches.
  4. Conduct penetration testing that simulate attacks, and then analyze and assess potential system vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.
  5. Research the latest information technology (IT) security trends to identify and classify existing and new security risks.
  6. Help design, plan, and carry out their organization’s security strategy.
  7. Develop security standards and best practices for their organization.
  8. Classify and conclude security enhancements, as well as explain and recommend them to management or senior IT staff.
  9. Explain to computer users the importance of their organization’s security policy and procedures, as well as security-based products.

All candidates for the Bachelor of Science in cybersecurity must complete the Liberal Arts Curriculum requirements, the capstone assessment requirements, and the required courses for the major.

A minimum of 120 credits is required.

The capstone assessment is incorporated into SCS 400 . A project-based curriculum is employed to demonstrate mastery of the major and University learning objectives.
