SPL 340 - Biomedical Ethics (Philosophy)

Explores diverse philosophical approaches to human health, well-being, and the treatment of disease. Topics to be covered may include the ethical basis of healthcare practice (including nursing, hospice care, clinical research, and pharmacology, among other areas), the history and present state of the field of biomedical ethics, the distinction between physical illness and mental disorder, theories of disability and health justice, ethical controversies surrounding emerging medical technologies, and existential-philosophical attitudes towards death and dying.  Satisfies the Philosophy requirement of the Liberal Arts Curriculum. Fall and spring semester. Fee.
