SED 305 - Practicum: Multiculturalism (Education)

1 Credit(s)

Multicultural teaching is a personal, professional, and spiritual endeavor. The purpose of this course, which prepares teaching candidates in all certification areas for working with diverse populations, is to initiate multicultural journeys by pairing fieldwork with an exploration of social justice, critical, and culturally relevant pedagogies. This approach, which provides opportunities for deep collaboration, builds capacities for raising the academic achievement of linguistically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse learners. By engaging in this combination of theory and practice, students are introduced to the dispositions necessary for meeting the needs of all learners.  Tubercular check, Act 33 Child Abuse, Act 34 Criminal Record check, Act 114 FBI Federal Criminal History Record, and PDE-6004 (Arrest or Conviction Report and Certification Form) required.  Formal admission into the Education Program required or permission of the instructor.  A pre-service 15 hour practicum for students in districts that have a diverse student body.  Prerequisite:  SED 201  or SED 202 .  A pre-service 15 hour practicum experience for students in districts that have a diverse (ethnically, racially, and economically) student body.
