SED 327 - Reading in Secondary Content Area (Education)

3 Credit(s)

Content area reading is broadly described as the reading that students need to be able to complete for a particular subject area, such as math, history, or science. The reading associated with content area courses-e.g., mathematical proofs, paleographic texts, and lab reports-reflects not only the philosophical underpinnings of these subjects, but also the specific text structures used by those practicing in the field. The purpose of this course is to prepare preservice teachers to adapt secondary content area texts to support their students, especially those with diverse needs and learning difficulties, in order to facilitate their learning of the content area curriculum.  Field experiences required. Tubercular check, Act 33 Child Abuse, Act 34 Criminal Record check, Act 114 FBI Federal Criminal History Record, and PDE-6004 (Arrest or Conviction Report and Certification Form) required.  Formal admission into the Education Program.  Prerequisite: SED 201 . Fall semester.
