SED 663 - Culturally Responsive Teach Strat (Education)

3 Credit(s)

Culturally responsive pedagogy is less about using a set of specific strategies for working with diverse populations of students and more about adopting a mindset that affirms their identities, honors their experiences, and holds them to high expectations. The purpose of this course, which uses case studies to illustrate how research-based, culturally-responsive practices can enhance student learning, is to provide teachers with additional strategies for meeting the cognitive, motivational, and linguistic needs of all learners. In addition to teaching phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary acquisition, and comprehension, principles for delivering supplemental reading interventions, writing instruction, and new literacies are also addressed.

 Credits: 3.

When Offered: Master’s session 2, Online.
