SED 669 - Visual Literacy (Education)

3 Credit(s)

Visual literacy, the ability to interpret and make use of visual images, is a complex act of meaning making that provides learners with opportunities to make connections, synthesize information, and critique the world around them. In much the same way that critical literacy is less about acquiring skills for reading and writing and more about questioning intentions and searching for alternative perspectives, visual literacy is concerned with issues of power, marginalization, and social action. The purpose of this course, which takes a scholarly approach to aesthetics and iconography, is to provide teachers with tools for integrating visual literacies with textual ones and incorporating visual resources across the curriculum.

 Credits: 3.

When Offered: Master’s session 4, Online.
