This course introduces student to the skills and principles associated with the care of the surgical patient. The student masters essential tasks which include using aseptic technique; surgical scrubbing; donning gown and gloves; instrument and equipment identification; the use, application and removal of steri-strips, staples, and sutures; medical office procedure skills; documentation of procedures and informed consent; and communicating complex issues to peers and patients.
