SED 661 - Found of Critical & Cultural Lit (Education)

This course serves as an introduction to the theories and models of the reading process. Students will be introduced to the elements of effective literacy instruction from different social, cultural, and historical perspectives. This course also explores the major approaches and techniques for developing literacy that contemporary research and practice have proven successful. Students will critically examine these theories and models and critique their strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, the major components of reading development, such as phonics, syllabic analysis, fluency, spelling, and high-frequency sight words will be examined so that teachers can develop a critical repertoire of approaches and techniques.


 Credits: 3.

 When Offered: Master’s Session 1, Online. 

Prerequisite: Admission to the Critical & Cultural Literacy, M.Ed. program.
