Advanced Nutrition Practice, M.S.

The Master of Science in Advanced Nutrition Practice is a 32-credit online program offering a strong multidisciplinary approach to prepare students and professionals with the skills necessary to enhance career opportunities and knowledge.  The program provides an opportunity to pursue advanced education and develop advanced professional competencies. 

As nutrition and scientific research advances, academic inquiry evolves. The critical role of nutrition in the prevention and treatment of illness is becoming increasingly evident, and the demand for registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) with an advanced skill set is growing faster than ever.  Students will have the flexibility to complete at a pace suited to their schedule and also allow working practitioners to enroll part-time. This program would fulfill a need for those looking for an online, flexible option that meets the clinician’s knowledge needs and exam eligibility requirements.  The program is dedicated to educating the next generation of nutrition professionals and would also allow a student to customize their experience by choosing courses to meet their specialization and professional needs.  Students will take required core courses (17 credits) and have the opportunity to select the remaining 15 credits from the Nutrition electives and/or the Professional Skills electives. These electives provide students the opportunity to choose an interdisciplinary selection of courses that focus on a particular area that may be relevant to their career goals. 

Educational Objectives:

  • Promote the translation of nutrition research to health and quality of life.

  • Develop nutrition interventions and education programs tailored for high risk populations that experience health disparities.
  • Incorporate coursework and activities to expand skills in team building, cooperative learning, and problem solving.
  • Develop creative communication techniques to provide the public with science-based information and translate emerging nutrition knowledge to the public and other professionals.
  • Upskill professionals to meet current marketplace demands and professional development. 

Admission Requirements:

 A completed graduate study application form

  •  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and official undergraduate transcripts from all institutions attended.
  • Official transcript(s) from any institution(s) in which post baccalaureate or graduate course work was completed.
  • A current resume
  • A personal statement explaining how the Seton Hill graduate program can help you accomplish your professional goals.

Program Specific Admission Criteria:

  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0   Two letters of recommendation written by an appropriate professional
  • Graduate of an ACEND accredited dietetics program and/or credentialed RD/RDN
