This major is designed for the Online Bachelor’s Degree & Certificate Program students. The goal of the Allied Health Leadership (AHL) online degree completion program is to offer students who are already practicing in medical occupations a liberal arts education to enhance their leadership and critical thinking skills. The Bachelor’s Degree that they earn, combined with their previous education and training, will provide them with an undergraduate credential allowing them to seek promotion in their respective fields. They will also be prepared to pursue graduate education. Students will greatly benefit from the communication and problem-solving skills developed by the liberal arts curriculum as well as by their major courses. They will become more informed leaders in their fields by gaining the historical, cultural, religious, and global awareness which is inculcated by a Seton Hill education. Their current roles as caregivers will also be enhanced by the insights provided by Catholic Social Teaching. 

 

Learning Ojectives:

  1. Apply critical thinking skills to developing solutions for contemporary healthcare issues. 
  2. Integrate an understanding of the challenges facing today’s healthcare systems into personal practice by articulating the increasing complexity of medical care, the underlying forces affecting patient outcomes, and the rapid proliferation of healthcare resources. 
  3. Apply various concepts and theories of leadership to demonstrate how they impact management functions in healthcare settings. 
  4. Demonstrate respect for and adaptability to cultural, ethnic, and individual diversity as appropriate for leadership roles within a changing healthcare environment.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental principles of communication in the institutional healthcare setting by analyzing internal and external messaging aligned with mission, and designing documents reflecting this analysis of communication strategies. 
  6. Incorporate knowledge, theory, and research from both historical and contemporary perspectives into healthcare practice, developing both personal and global perspectives on healthcare leadership. 

All candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in behavioral health must complete the Liberal Arts Curriculum requirements, the capstone assessment requirement, and the courses required for the major.

The capstone assessment consists of a showcase portfolio. The portfolio includes a statement of career history and goals, reflections upon and examples of academic work and career-related documents such as job descriptions and training certificates. In the portfolio, students are expected to demonstrate the acquisition of the major and University learning objectives. They also demonstrate the capacity to be selfreflective and to critically evaluate their academic and professional experiences.

A minimum of 120 credits is required.
