SED 341 - Studies of Exceptionalities (Education)

This course examines the characteristics and instruction of individuals identified with high and low incidence disabilities (from grades PK - 12, or up to age 21) and is designed to prepare teachers to work with these individuals in various placements.  Topics include methods of identification, evaluation, and placement of students diagnosed with disabilities, learning needs and instructional techniques, positive behavior support plans, individualized programming, use of technology, and current educational issues.   

Students taking this course will investigate opportunities to directly observe individuals with low and high incidence disabilities to satisfy the 4 hour field experience and case study requirement.   

Field experience is a required component of this course. Tubercular check, Act 33 Child Abuse, Act 34 Criminal Record check, Act 114 FBI Federal Criminal History Record, and PDE-6004 (Arrest or Conviction Report and Certification Form) required.  Prerequisites: SED 205 , SED 208  and SED 209 . Spring semester.
