SMU 435 - Student Teaching Seminar (Music)1 Credit(s)
This seminar emphasizes professional responsibilities found in the companion course, the student teaching experience (SED 433 ). The Pennsylvania Department of Education competencies are examined in conjunction with topics addressing the content-specific needs of music specialists. Course outcomes are multi-faceted, including supporting pre-service music educators as they immerse themselves in the field and prepare to apply for work in a variety of education and education-related settings. Permission required.

When Offered: Fall and spring semesters.
Prerequisites: Been formally admitted to the teacher certification program. Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0. Passed the School of Education Applied Social Science’s Professional Rubric. Passed the necessary assessments, such as the Basic Skills Exams. Achieved at least a “B” in SMU 320 , SMU 330 , SMU 331 and SMU 333 . Received the recommendation of education and content area faculty (when applicable). Successfully completed all of the coursework required for Pennsylvania certification, Submitted the Student Teach Application Packet by the deadline.
Corequisite: SED 433 .
