(Coordinated Program in Nutrition and Dietetics)

The Coordinated Program in Nutrition and Dietetics provides a curriculum that meets Core Knowledge and Competencies for the RDN and a concentration entitled Entrepreneurial Approaches to Dietetics Practice. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the registration exam upon graduation without the need for an additional dietetic internship.

The Coordinated Program begins in the fall semester of the junior year. There is a maximum of thirteen seats in the junior year and thirteen seats in the senior year. For entrance into the major and a guaranteed seat in the Coordinated Program, an incoming freshman is required to have a minimum 950 SAT (Critical Reasoning+ Math) on test taken prior to March 2016 or a minimum 1030 SAT if takenMarch 2016 or later, or a inimum 20 ACT Composite score, and a minimum high school cumulative grade point average of 3.2. Transfer students with a minimum college cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum dietetics major grade point average of 3.0 would be eligible for admission into the major and a guaranteed seat in the program if seats are available.

Seton Hill courses SCH 202 , SHL 214 , SHL 216 , SNT 300 , SNT 320 , and SNT 321  or equivalent courses from another institution must be taken within ten years of admittance to the Coordinated Program. If not the course(s) must be retaken, or the student must successfully complete the challenge examination(s).

For retention in the major and the program, all students must make required progress in the course of study and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum dietetics major grade point average of 3.0.

Students are required to have physical examinations, specific titers and immunizations, clearances, and insurances to participate in supervised practices. In addition students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from supervised practice sites.

Learning Objectives: Nutrition and Dietetics

  1. Students will synthesize scientific information and research to perform evidence based dietetics practice.
  2. Students will display beliefs, values, attitudes, and behaviors appropriate for the professional level of dietetics practice.
  3. Students will develop and deliver appropriate information, products, and services to individuals, groups, and populations.
  4. Students will strategically employ principles of management and systems in the provision of food and nutrition services in a variety of settings
  5. Students will apply entrepreneurial skills in preparation for employment in a variety of settings.

All candidates for the Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition and dietetics must complete the Liberal Arts Curriculum requirements, the capstone assessment requirement, and the required courses for the major.

The capstone assessment includes completion of the showcase portfolio comprised of specific assignments that demonstrate fulfillment of the nutrition and dietetics learning objectives and a reflection paper that addresses how the student integrated the University and nutrition and dietetics learning objectives while developing into an entry-level dietitian.

A minimum of 120 credits is required.

Post baccalaureate students can earn a certificate in dietetics by successfully completing required courses in the dietetics curriculum and by demonstrating writing competency. Post baccalaureate students interested in earning a Bachelor of Science degree should consult the Registrar for credit requirements.
