Study of the basic concepts of microbiology from a human health and disease perspective. Topics include: basic microbial cell biology and genetics, immunology, virology, pathogenicity, antimicrobial therapeutics, epidemiology and public health, and disease transmission.

Prerequisites: SCH 116 or SCH 141 or one semester of college-level chemistry; and SBL 150 , SBL 152 , or SHL 214 .
Corequisite: SBL 219 .
