By 2024, a master’s degree will be required to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN).
Seton Hill University’s Integrated Master’s Program in Nutrition and Dietetics provides a curriculum that meets the new requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  Our program provides students a competency-based education program that integrates didactic coursework with supervised experiential learning in a competency-based curriculum designed to prepare nutrition and dietetics practitioners for future models of practice.

Students will learn critical thinking and scientific skills needed for clinical practice, management and leadership. Our program inspires interprofessional collaboration and growth, education, and offers opportunities to achieve expanded roles in nutrition practice. 

Accreditation 
Seton Hill University BS/MS in Nutrition and Dietetics is an accredited demonstration program under the Future Education Model Accreditation Standards.
The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) released the Future Education Model Accreditation Standards for programs in nutrition and dietetics (see www.eatrightpro.org/FutureModel)  Program graduates will be eligible to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

There is a maximum of thirteen seats in each class. For entrance into the program,

an incoming freshman is required to have a minimum 1030 SAT or a minimum 20 ACT Composite score, and a minimum high school cumulative grade point average of 3.2. Transfer students with a minimum college cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum dietetics major grade point average of 3.0 would be eligible for admission into the major and a guaranteed seat in the program if seats are available.

Seton Hill courses SCH 202, SHL 214, SHL 216, SNT 300, SNT 320, and SNT 321 or equivalent courses from another institution must be taken within ten years of admittance to the Program. If not the course(s) must be retaken, or the student must successfully complete an assessment of prior learning.

For retention in the major and the program, all students must make required progress in the course of study and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum dietetics major grade point average of 3.0.  Students are required to have physical examinations, specific titers and immunizations, clearances, and insurances to

participate in supervised experiential learning. In addition, students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from supervised sites.

Learning Objectives: 

1. Students will synthesize scientific information and research to perform evidence- based dietetics practice.

2. Students will display beliefs, values, attitudes, and behaviors appropriate for the professional level of dietetics practice.

3. Students will develop and deliver appropriate information, products, and services to individuals, groups, and populations.

4. Students will strategically employ principles of management and systems in the provision of food and nutrition services in a variety of settings

5. Students will apply entrepreneurial skills in preparation for employment in a variety of settings.
 

All candidates for the Integrated Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics must complete the Liberal Arts Curriculum requirements, the capstone assessment requirement, and the required courses for the major.

The capstone assessment includes completion of the showcase portfolio comprised of specific assignments that demonstrate fulfillment of the nutrition and dietetics learning objectives and a reflection paper that addresses how the student integrated the University and nutrition and dietetics learning objectives while developing into an entry-level dietitian.
